Tell Apple wake up my computer.

Home sharing from iPad, iPhone, ATV, laptop whichever device you choose should not require leaving your computer awake all the time.

There should be an option to wake your computer from sleep mode then connect to your iTunes library.

Right now I use splashtop streamer to wake my computer then have to connect with my music and video apps.

It would easier if the wake feature was native in the devices.

Am I missing something?

Where is Apple's Green conscience?

Unfortunately the only setting I am aware of that is relevant is your "Wake on LAN", my assumption is that such problems may well relate to network settings or security software that may have been installed. I don't really have a solution for people who are suffering this issue, I merely came along to let you know that it does in fact work for others.

Wake on Lan did not work for me when using a DLink router, switched to Airport Extreme and problem gone. Try to connect your AppleTV by cable (i used a network switch) as well as the mac with the library. Put the mac to sleep, start a movie on the aTV. If the mac wakes up (like mine did once connected with this set-up), then the problem is the router and I'd replace it with an Airport Extreme or Time Capsule. If you cannot use a cable, you could also set-up the mac to create a wireless network and get the ATV to connect to that network (thereby eliminating the router between the mac and aTV).

Connect the AppleTV with a cable to the airport extreme to see if the problem remains. Wireless can be affected by interferences from other networks in your neighborhood. If it works with the aTV wired to the extreme, then the problem is your wireless network. In my experience, I had ramdom trouble with wireless connection (couple of times per month) that never occured again once I switched to wire (only the aTV is affected and it appears to affect more frequently people using Windows to share the library, no problem with iPod Touch, iPhones and iPad).

I figured the problem out.

This SOLVED my issue.

I left the Verizon router alone, it is still first line. Next is the Airport Extreme, connected by Ethernet.

I removed the Ethernet cable between the AEBS and iMac, turned on WiFi on my Mac. Now with my Mac in sleep mode, the shared libraries finally show up on my devices!

So, I have Verizon Router>AEBS(ethernet)>my WiFi network>iMac and devices.

I appreciate all of your help.

This has been working EVERY TIME:

Connect your iPad/iPhone to your iMac via Bluetooth when iMac is awake.

Now when iMac is sleeping and

When iTunes shared library doesn't show up, turn on Bluetooth on your iPad/iPhone and click on your iMac connection.

Now I have found whether or not the device connects to the Mac, the connection to the shared library can now be made through the other apps.

Try it, it has worked EVEY TIME.
