I have a late 2005 Mac Mini and would like to update/upgrade the OS. Is this possible or do I have to purchase a new one?

A PPC Mac like yours cannot be upgraded further than Leopard 10.5.8. Leopard is no provided by Apple so that means paying up to $200 on Amazon or eBay.
You may feel that putting that towards a new Mac is a better deal. 🙂
You may be able to talk apple in selling you the Leopard dvd.
