I have the same problem. It was working fine up until the last update for iTunes 11.0.2

Here's the details:

I have an Apple TV - first Gen and up until a couple of weeks ago, was regularly playing sync'd iTunes music and videos through it on a daily basis.

I see other devicess showing up in the "Devices" list in the left panel of iTunes (such as iPad, iPhone, etc.)

AppleTV used to be there consistently, then disappeared upon update to 11.0.2

Apple TV also does not show up in the devices tab under the Preferences window.

I have tried multiple suggestions on the support forum but none have worked.

Apple TV is able to access the network, is on the same network as the iMac with iTunes library connected. Both are connected to network via ethernet cable (not wifi). Both are able to access the internet (apple tv plays movie prieviews and gets updates). Using the Terminal app, I am able to ping the apple TV's IP number from the iMac and get a successful return.

Both have latest software downloads.

I have tried cold-booting the apple TV, resetting the router, and verified in the router device list that both imac and appleTV are listed as active, un-blocked connections.

I don't intend to buy an Apple TV 2nd gen or later (since I bought this one and it's not working now due to software update, what guarantee that a later model won't generate the same problem later.

One last wrinkle, I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old who are jonesing hard for their "dance party" fix.

Have you ever wronged a two year old?

It is NOT pretty.

More information: The AppleTV (1st gen) does show up in the Devices section in an older version of iTunes running on a different iMac. So it is possible to play on the Apple TV with the older iMac acting as a bridge of sorts....not ideal.

The iMac is running OS 10.4.11 and iTunes version 9.2.1 (5). Still no luck with the system running iTunes 11.0.2 so seems to definitely be something with iTunes 11.0.2.

Any word of a fix coming?

Same problem here. I have a windows 7 "server" which runs iTunes (currently 11.0.2.26). I've been having issues with some iTunes processes eating up my CPU usage. I did some research and they appeared to be related to wifi syncing of iPhones and Ipads. So, I was going to turn off wifi syncing of these devices and see if it eliminated these rouge processes.

I clicked on the iPhone 5 device in the sidebar and unchecked the 'sync over wifi' option. The bar at the bottom immediately jumped from 32Gb to showing the device full. I canceled it and tried restarting iTunes to resolve the problem. I also noticed an iTunes process still running and using ~47% CPU, so I ended this process. When I restarted iTunes, the Terms and Conditions page came up. I hit accept and when iTunes started, it had lost all my settings - my apple ID was not logged in, and as a result, iTunes Match and Home Sharing were off. I turned these back on, but now the Apple TV (gen 1) does not show up.

I went on to the Apple TV and it still thinks it's linked to my library.

I'm pretty sure I can unlink it and relink it with my iTunes library on the server (I had to do this when I moved my iTunes from my office computer to the server), but this requires re-copying all the files to the Apple TV. I have about 140Gb on the Apple TV, so this is not a short process. Has anyone else tried this method? I would certainly prefer a method that would allow me to fix the link and not re-copy all my files.

Had same problem intermittently (along with random variable [200 or 42 or 36 or 10!] incomplete syncs of music songs to iPhone). Tried disconnecting at the AppleTV end and then reconnecting but although it gave the numbers and then appeared once (out of two tries) in iTunes, as soon as I entered the numbers in iTunes, it disappeared from iTunes and on the AppleTV the 'XXX xxxx's library' link changed to greyed out.

Have re-booted iMac & AppleTV and re-started iTunes all to no avail. Have not as yet re-booted Airport Extreme which serves Ip addresses around my network.

Have always used AppleTV successfully in streaming mode but Incidentally since this iTunes upgrade on the rare occasions that it does appear in iTune streaming is impossibly slow even music stutters?

Could not find any other way to resolve the issue, so I unpaired and re-paired them:

- on Apple TV removed pairing with my computer

- added computer again

- went to computer and it saw the Apple TV on the network

- added it, entered code

- all files were removed and re-synced to the Apple TV

As a general comment - I've had Apple TVs (gen 1 and 2) disappear from iTunes and my iPhone/iPad before, and rebooting my router usually solves the issue. I have a lot of devices on my network (both wired and wireless), and I find I have to reboot my router often to solve issues (maybe every week or two weeks). Very annoying. Do any routers have a feature to reboot them on a regular schedule, like in the middle of the night when nothing will be disrupted?

Thanks knason but this didn't work for me.

I am in UK and have BT fibre as my broadband. This has a download (right now and normally) of 30MBs+ so speed to the property isn't the issue. I use BT's white box as a modem only, it doesn't distribute IP addresses nor does it act as a wireless router. It is connected by CAT6 cable to an Airport Extreme in my loft. This is the DHCP server, providing IP addresses to all my assets whether by cable or by wireless. My Apple TV is connected by CAT6 cable to the Airport Extreme as is my iMac. I use WakeOnLan and can see that the Apple TV has been served a meaningful IP address and I can ping it from my iMac.

I store nothing on the Apple TV, I just stream and it used to work perfectly.

I have re-booted the router, reset the Apple TV, disconnected and re-connected the Apple TV from the iMac iTunes all to no avail.

It takes an age to complete an iTunes sync even though it isn't syncing any content. If I try and sync one film or one tune just to test syncing, it takes an age and doesn't seem to actually show a meaningful reduction in available space on the Apple TV although the sync completes (eventually) on the iMac without any warnings thrown up.

If I try and do a network test on the Apple TV (which I assume doesn't involve the iMac) or try and access YouTube it won't do it. This suggests to me an issue between the Apple TV and all my devices in particular the Airport Extreme.

I have a separate CAT6 cable running the same route from the Airport Extreme to an adjacent set top type TV box (Sky+HD) and this continues to stream On Demand data.

Any thoughts appreciated as to why the data flow is so poor.

Solved!! Nothing to do with Apple TV or Apple for that matter. I have two Netgear GS605s switches and eventually read that someone had one that had overheated. One of mine had too, and although the lights continued to happily flash away, the fact was it was passing data at a small fraction of the normal rate. Very frustrating!! Almost as much as Netgear are in replacing it. Substitued another and all the issues disappeared!

Hi there,

i think i found the issue.

It depends on an Update in the Mobile Device Support.

First, i uninstalled iTunes.

Then i "downgraded" my ITunes to 11.0.0.163 (this version i found in my software library on my NAS)

I unpacked the file an ther will be 6 files.

AppleApplicationSupport.msi

AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi

AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi

iTunes64.msi

SetupAdmin.msi

I uninstall the ApplicationSupport via Programms and Funcions

After uninstall, i installed the ApplicationSupport.

Problem always there.

Then i uninstall the MobileDeviceSupport and installed the older one.

After this, the AppleTV's will be back in the Device List in iTunes.

But, why i always have to do "Apples" Job to resolve an Issue like this?

Just try, and give me some Feedback.

Bye
