Battery Health at 98% after 21 cycles!

My battery health is at 98% after just 21 cycles. I have had this MacBook Air for about 1 month already and I am upset to know that it's battery life is decreasing rapidly. BTW, I used iStats Pro to find out my Battery Health.

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

"Battery Health" percentages simply represent the percentage of capacity as compared with an arbitrary standard capacity derived from average battery capacities for your model. No battery will exit manufacturing with an exacting target capacity. There is a natural variance that can't be eliminated. It is certainly possible that a brand new battery will have an actual "new" capacity a couple of percentage points above or below the average. As such, a 98% level can be considered absolutely normal.

Apple will consider the battery "defective" if the value rapidly drops from the starting point, or otherwise drops below 80% of the average capacity of a new unit, within the warranty period.

Whether you are experiencing a rapid drop would be determined by a group of readings collected over a significant time interval. As single reading at 2 months/21 cycles of 98% is not indicitive of anything, really.

What was the starting %, and how many check points do you have over those two months? A sufficinet number of checkpoints could possibly support the notion of "trend" that could be indicative of a problem, or no problem at all.

For comparison purposes, my system is at 95% after 36 cycles over 10 months. My starting % was 98% when brand new. Soooo, I've lost 3 percentage points in 10 months. At that rate, my battery very well could last the expectant lifespan.

p.s. Your percentage will go up and down by a percent or two, all dependent on how you use the machine and how you charge it. Certain cycling habits have an effect, but it is rather minimal. Don't be surprised at a 99% or a 97% the next time you check it. The important number is the trend over time and cycles.
