2 apple iphone 5's

me and my wife have an iphone each.. i sync my phone on my imac no worries.. but i synced my wifes phone the other day and all of a sudden she lost all her contacts, texts etc.i now have to go back 3 months in backups to retrieve her actaul contacts.

The funny thing is we both have different icloud accounts and passowrds and seperate itunes accounts. after ive restored its fine for a day or 2 then she loses her contacts again. their just numbers in her messages etc so its lost all their names.. .. dont know what to do as she losing all recent texts numbers etc all the time and having to go back months to restore is pointless in the long run.. could it be a memory issue or am i overlooking the obvious..

we dont have sperate profiles on our imac we just use mine will that make a difference even though our usernames and passwords are different!!.please any help appreciated its driving me nuts!!!

Why are you trying to do an iCloud backup? If the contacts are sync'd with iCloud, and you need them "cleaned up" then do the following:

1. Quit and restart the Contacts app on the IOS device: double click the Home button, and then press down on one of the apps that shows up. On the Contact app, click on the "-" in the upper left-hand corner to close the app". Click on the Home button again to go back to the Home screen. Open Contacts to see if they are now OK.

If not:

2. Turn iCloud Contacts off and back on:

a. Tap Settings > iCloud.

b. Turn Contacts off. Choose to delete data only if your data exists at icloud.com/contacts and on one or more of your computers. Otherwise, choose Keep Data.

c. Wait a few minutes before turning the Contacts slider back on

d. Open the Contacts app and see if the issue is resolved

If not:

3. Restart your device: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them until the Silver Apple appears. Once the Home screen comes up, open Contacts and see if the issue is resolved.

Hope one of these clears things up! Be sure to check your Contacts list at icloud.com/contacts before doing item #2!!!

Cheers,

Hi Chris,

Yes, you can leave Contacts out of the mix in the iTunes sync, and then everything else you have set up to sync will still work normally. Just be sure you have all of the various tabs for her device set up as you want them to sync before pushing that "SYNC" button! 🙂 (I would suggest carefully checking each and every tab of the device profile in iTunes to make sure they are set up the way you want before hitting SYNC...) Also, make sure it is set up for Manual Sync instead of Auto Sync.

Just curious - any reason why you haven't upgraded to iTunes 11? Although a lot of folks don't particularly like it, it has some nice iCloud/iTunes cross-checking features that keep you from setting up conflicting syncs.

If you decide to upgrade, be sure, once you have the new iTunes installed, to go to the View option at the top and select "Show Sidebar". That will provide you with a "look" that is closer to your existing version than if it is not showing....

Keep me posted on your progress!

Cheers,
