My iPod touch 4gen keeps crashing and lagging?? Help??

I have recently updated my iPod touch 4th generation to the new iOS 6.1.2, which I now seriouslyregret doing after reading a lot of the bad reviews on it for iPod 4g users. 😢 Whenever I open an app, after about a minute or a few seconds it crashes, especially Facebook and Tumblr, Safari and Google. My iPod is incredibly slow, especially when trying to type. My power button/lock button is broken, and I am currently using the Assistive Touch. I don't think there is a way of turning it off now without leaving my iPod useless. I've had my iPod for about two years now, and up until now I've had no crashing/lagging problems. Even the App Store, iTunes, Photos, and General crashes, and I am becoming very ****** off. I don't have the money to get it fixed and I don't know how to restore it, nor Jailbreak it, even though I don't think you're supposed to. I don't want my iPod to become useless because I use it all the time and I don't have the money to replace it. If anyone can help, please do! I seriously don't want to have to just throw it away :/ Also, if I can downgrade it to iOS 5.1.1, will that help matters any? Thanks.

Check that all your apps are off. You do this by double pressing the home button and pressing on the app like when your going to delete something. Check that and then turn off your ipod then restart it, it always works for me and I also have the iOS 6.1.2 software.

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.

Have y tried restoring the iPod, first from backup and, if problems persist, to factory settings/new iPod?

First try the shut down and turn on, theone I suggested if not then you should go for the restoring one that lllaass suggested

But I can't shut my iPod off, the power/lock button is broken and if I shut it off it'll be useless, right? I won't be able to turn it back on. And I don't know how to restore it, I'm too afraid I'm going to lose everything because I'm not sure if it's backed up or not. 😕

Looks like a visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is required...

But will they replace my entire iPod? I've read it's usually hard for them to fix the power buttons and they usually replace them, and I've had mine for so long, will I have to pay for it if they have to replace it? And if they do, will all the stuff I had on my iPod previously still be on the new iPod? Or will I have to download and buy all of that stuff again?

When you use the touch assist to "power down" your device fully it will not be useless and you can get it to come back on but not by using any of the buttons. simply plug you ipod into the charger and it will power on trust me lol I was in the same situation with the lock button but someone gave me that advice which I was scared to follow ...when I did power down I plugged in and tah-dah it powered on so basically don't be afraid to power down cause of a broken button
