Help please :)

Okay, So i know I'm in dire need of a new Mac, I'm using a power so please don't remind me however I'm trying to purchase stuff from the iTunes store for my apple TV and I can't access my account they're telling me i need to upgrade but there isn't any upgrades for my mac. Does that mean I can't purchase anything? Help please.
