The wireless password. I just updated the airport extreme software. I also just hooked it up to a new computer. It seems to have a password set up, even though I selected 'create new network'. The 'old' version had icons of the various airports on the sidebar. It allowed you to select manual set up. This version does not have that.

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility

Click on the AirPort Extreme icon

Click Edit

Click on the Wireless tab at the top of the window

Edit the password as you wish and Verify

I would recommend that you also change the name of the wireless network. If you don't, your computer will have settings for the same wireless network name with two different passwords. This will likely cause a conflict sooner or later.

Click Update at the lower right to save the new settings and the Extreme will restart in 30 seconds

The original is still unsolved. I did however go through my hard copy of my compter diaries and found the password connected to this particular airport extreme. I have now been able to connect my iphone and ipad to the wireless network. I thank you for help. It is a good thing I keep track of this stuff:)

That window is not available to me. My airport utility looks similar in the airport icon, but does no have 'base station internet wireless network or disks at the top of it. It has on the upper left other airport base stations in grey.

This sounds like you are describing an earlier version of AirPort Utility....not the version of AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion.

Open up AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Utility menu at the upper left corner of the screen and then click About AirPort Utility to see the version that you have.

In Mountain Lion....AirPort Utility will be version 6.x.
