airplay video playing using apple remote
while i play a video from my ipad to apple tv via airplay, can i control it with my apple remote? (pause/play, fastforward,quit,etc.)

Yes, absolutely. Once the video is playing on ATV, any physical remote or the iOS remote app will control that video (play/pause/ff/rewind).
