AirPlay will only play audio not video for purchased iTunes content. IPad 1 to ATV 2, both with most recent software updates.

AirPlay will only play audio not video for purchased iTunes videos.I'm using IPad 1 to ATV 2, both with most recent software updates. Attempted reboot, mirroring, start stop video, play video in other apps, close and reopen app ETC. - all without success. I'm trying to watch the most recent episode in a season and audio is all that will AirPlay - however other episodes in the season will AirPlay audio and video. Other apps will AirPlay audio and video. I can go from one episode that functions perfectly, to my recent download that will not AirPlay. I doubt the downloaded file is the issue as I've experienced this before and was able to fix. Made so many adjustments last time that I'm not sure what fixed it. Need a solution. Obviously frustrated.

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router.
Restart your mobile device.

The iPad 1 isn't able to do AirPlay Mirroring.
