Q: copy over ethernet is slow, when sharing internet over airport

I have a NAS conneted directly to my iMac's ethernet port, and I have internet sharing set to "share my connection over wi-fi, with computers using ethernet".

When I try to copy from my NAS to my iMac, it copy's at half the speed it copies to  computers over wifi.   If I turn Aitport off I can't copy from my NAS to my iMac at all. It apears to be sending the files from my NAS, through the shared wi-fi on my iMac, to the router, and back to my iMac.

How can I get full ethernet speed between my iMac and My NAS?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712

    10.7 & 10.8…

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

This didn't help, and even though I tried it, I don't understand how making a new location would make any difference.
