Warm is normal, too hot to handle is not. If you're concerned you can make an appointment at your local apple store and have them take a look at it.

As to the battery draining, you may want to poke around in the settings. I know when I updated to iOS6 every single notification was defaulted to on, which means there's a lot of background processes running, which drain the battery. You can see if you have things running that you don't even realize you have running.
