Airplay on IPad with IOS 6.1.2 not displaying Apple TV

I have reset and updated all software on my Apple TV, but the Airplay icon on my IPad 3 with IOS 6.12 will not display or reflect the ATV. Have tried disconnecting, restarting, upgrading all software, and made sure Airplay is turned on on the ATV. I have read about he software issue updates and tried all the suggestions, but none have worked. We have WiFI in the house and trying to do everything via WIFI...no ethernet cables hooked up to ATV.

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router.
Restart your mobile device.

I tried all of the above, except for restarting the router since we do not have a router. No luck....
