The iPad does not enter recovery mode when holding down the Home button

Having an iPad 2.

States that iPad is disabled - connect to iTunes.

The original computer with which the iPad 2 was syncronized has crashed. iCloud has not been used for backup or syncing.

Starting up the iPad 2 by holding the Home button down and connecting USB cable to the device and also to a computer (new).

It never goes into the recovery mode.

What shall I do?

Thank you in advance!

Is this how you do it?

Recovery Mode

1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.

3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.

4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.

Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

I searched for hours because I too could not get into Recovery mode. Turns out the Apple documentation is simply wrong. Here is how you actually get a device into Recovery mode:

With your device turned off and connected to your computer, hold the power (lock) button AND home button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but keep holding the home button for another 15 seconds.
