how to insert a SD card in imac

is there a slot for an SD card or do I need to buy a card reader? If I need the latter, does any card reader work?

iMac, iOS 6.1.2

The latest iMacs have an SD slot on the Mac and the previous design had a slot on the side under the CD/DVD drive.

Hi, it's an early 2008 model, so nothing under CD or on the back

Then pretty much any external USB card reader will work. Most have slot for several kinds of card formats. You can often find them for under US$10 if you watch teh sales flyers from office suply stores.
