how to get the other bar down under 1 gb
My other bar (the orange colored bar in iTunes) is over 2 gigs and I want to know how to get it way lower so I can still use my available space on my iPhone?

Other is anything that does not fit into the rest of the identifyied catergories. It can also indicate corruption.
Clean up the email stored on the device and clean up your messaging (SMS, MMS, iMessage) history.
If OTHER is still large, restore the device from backup.
If that does not reduce it, restore as new.
