Dynamically wrap text (return line) by adjusting box possible?

Just curious - is it possible in Final Cut Pro X to have text wrap (as in dynamically adjust where the line breaks are), by adjusting the box that encapsulates it. One of the features that was always a pain in FCP 7 was that I had to manually add the RETURN in the text property field. It'd be so much nicer if this could be done dynamically.

I'm using the custom text generator.

Im finding the word wrap in the Paragraph Basic title very useful - thanks again to fox_m.
Just one niggle though - I'd like to be able to fade the title in and out (by about three or four frames each end) but when I do that, the clip below fades out too... I think this used to be the case with all titles in FCP X but it doesn't happen with the Custom Title (which I used before fox_m kindly came up with Paragraph Basic).

Other than putting my titles into a Compound Clip (which can cause difficulties if any further clip trimming is required) I wonder if there's a way to stop the Paragraph Basic title affecting the clip below?

It's funny. The default Title in FCPX doesn't handle that kind of formatting, but the default Title project in Motion is set up for a "Paragraph Format" text object by default.

Download and install this template: Paragraph Basic

When applied to the storyline in FCPX, double click the text to gain access to the text box size and ruler (you can add tabs - right click on the ruler) and to edit the text. If you single click on the text, you will get a regular plain bounding box (without the blue control dots). You can click and drag in the text box to reposition in the window. You have to click out of the title and back on it to switch from text edit to repositioning. I published the Auto-Shrink option and set it to "To All Margins" which means as you type and run out of room in the text bounds, the text will automatically resize down to fit all text. Also published are Position and Rotation parameters. If you use tabs, turn off auto-shrink. Also when turned off, the text will extend below the bottom of the text region as you continue to add text.

For the rest of the text formatting options, use the Text inspector.

The problem is that Title templates include a Title Background placeholder. What that means is: everything that's visible in the storyline *below* the level of the title (it's like an automatic "accumulator"). In Motion, if you simply turn off the that background placeholder, then fades and other effects will affect ONLY the content of the title template and NOTHING below the title in the storyline.

You can add this to Paragraph Basic:

Paragraph Basic No BG and use it when you need to apply effects (like fades) only to the title.

I'm gonna say: no. Not through a Motion template/title. Margin controls cannot be keyframed or "automated" (I tried rigging them, simply no response in FCPX to control changes).

You can, however, use a Title that is in Paragraph format (when you double click on the text in the canvas, you'll see a rectangular "container" and a Ruler over the text [IF the ruler control at the top right of the canvas is turned on].) Type out all your text. Every 10-20 frames (Shift -right arrow for 10 at a time), cut the Title and reposition the margins to group the words to a new wrap. Repeat until finished (shouldn't take long.)

The Custom Title is NOT in Paragraph format. One of the simplest "paragraph" format built-in titles is Lower Thirds > Upper. You can use the Margin control points to reposition the text anywhere you like. If you have Motion, create a basic Title project and save it. You'll get a Paragraph format "lower third" of plain text, no frills. If you need some of the effects Custom can give you, you can add Sequence Text controls (or pick one of the pre-built text behaviors to animate the text.)
