Aperture file permissions question

Using new iMac and LaCie raid thunderbolt external drive . Aperture library is stored on the external drive - working fine until today. Now a message to check FILE PERMISSIONS - have done this several times, as well as other suggestions (rebuild etc.)_ and the library, as well as the application stored on the imac still will not open. Suggestions, please! I have checked sharing and permissions - they are read and write (except for everyone, and can't seem to change this anyway). Oops - just noticed right under SHARING AND PERMISSIONS it says YOU CAN ONLY READ - but my name and staff listings say READ AND WRITE. Everyone says READ ONLY. Even unlocking the page, the sharing and permissions section is grayed out, and unable to change anything on it.

THANKS for all suggestions. This panel is for the LaCie hard drive, where the Aperture library is stored.

Options given when opening with command and option down are "repair permissions, repair database, and rebuild database." Have tried all 3 several times, and this doesn't help.

When I try to use the repair database options eetc. it says :"check that you have permission to write to the library directory" - can't seem to get past this.

Right click on the folder which contains your library files (xxxxxx.aplibrary) and click on Get Info.

In mine I see I have Read and Write Permissions for myself and for everyone.

I have Library on my internal HD and pictures referenced on external HD. The Database check is performed even without the external drive connected.

How is the external drive formatted and attached to the Mac? Aperture requires an OS X Extended filesystem for the library and it needs to be locally mounted.

What model of LaCie drive do you have?

What is the exact message and when does it occur?

Have you upgraded Aperture recently? What is your Aperture version? Starting with Aperture 3.4. Aperture is checking the formatting of the drive containing the library. Previous versions ignored the formatting and let you happily put your library onto a drive with the wrong formatting, but that is no longer possible.

Somehow, with the help of these suggestions, I was able to get the library to open. It is the latest version of Aperture. Not sure what I did, but I'm back in business. THanks to all who responded!
