how can i "down load ios "to my ipod touch ?

I have tried and tried to get IOS5 and icloud to down load on my ipod touch .may be its just impossible .

my home pc is running windows7

Which version of iOS?

Which version of iTunes?

Only the 3G and later can go to iOS 5, The 3G to 5.1.1 and the 4G and 5G to the latest which is iOS 6.x

This helps (I am just learning some of this stuff) after I retired ! I am enjoying my iPod and trying to learn.
