MacBookPro sees my printer's new IP address but sends to the old one

We had a power outage for a couple of days. When the computer system came back up, the WIFI IP address of my Brother printer was changed to192.168.0.100. It had been all that but ending in 101.

I went to System Preferences and made the change. I even added the printer at the new IP address and deleted the printer at the old one. All that worked just fine.

But when I try to print, the printer icon that loads in the Dock has the OLD 101 IP address, and nothing I'm able to do will change that. I tried rebooting. I tried shutting down, unplugging, removing the battery, holding down the start button. Nothing worked. The only printer the print command will summon is the old one not found in system preferences but evidently stuck somewhere in OSX.

Ho do I flush out the old printer IP setting if it no longer exists in system preferences?

In System Preferences>Fax & Print, Right click or Control+click on the Printers list Sidebar, choose Reset Printing System.

if you hold option and click the "-" tab it resets the printing system.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.

Any devices that previously appeared in your Printer List and Fax List will need to be added again after resetting the printing system.

Thanks! That did it. Followed these 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8 instructions...

One thing to note on a related point.

Re-setting the IP in the printer probably is a bad idea, even if Brother let me do that. That IP is set by the WIFI software in the router. When all came back after the power outage, the router assigned the DHCP IP address in the reverse of what they had been. The address of the printer and address of the laptop (100, 101) were switched.

Being adventurous and trying to undo that in the router WIFI setup proved to be deceptively easy to screw up. I lost communication with the router by assigning addresses contrary to what it had chosen. Routers do not like this, and mine refused to talk to me.

The paper clip reset hole in the back of the router saved me from network abyss.

The Router will assign IPs in order to the first devices to request them, likely after the outage the Printer was up & requesting an IP before the Mac was.
