Plugging my MacBook Pro into an outlet on an airplane
We might go on a long plane trip from Los Angeles to Australia this summer and I have a question for Apple about plugging my 15-inch, mid-2009 MacBook Pro into a power outlet on board. While reading through one of the other forums, I found out that there isn't a way to email them and I do not want to call them, because I don't want to bother the representative by making him/her pick up the phone just to answer this question. I also want to help keep the lines open for anyone who DOES need to contact them by phone.
My MacBook Pro came with an 85 watt MagSafe power adapter; however, according to Qantas Airlines' website, the outlets on board have a limit of 75 watts, which is lower than what the MagSafe adapter can support. I would like to know the circumstances that could cause the computer's power consumption to reach 75 watts and what I should avoid doing if I don't want my seat to lose power. The computer has an excellent battery life, but it's not good enough for the 15 hour or so flight.
I do know that there is an adapter called the MagSafe Airline Adapter, which will provide power to the computer, but it will not charge the battery. However, it does not seem to be available anymore, nor do I know if it is compatible with a mid-2009 MacBook Pro. I am also considering the World Travel Adapter Kit, which includes an Australian plug.
Now, I am aware that you might not be able to answer my question; I would just like to know the best way to ask Apple my question. What is the best way to get the information I want? Visit our local Apple store and ask a genius there? If you could tell me the best way to get the information, that would be great! Thanks!
By the way, we have not made a plane reservation yet, since we still don't know if we will go.
