iDVD Alternative?

Since Apple no longer supports/includes iDVD on new iMacs, what is a good third-party alternative? I just want to be able to create simple videos with menus and sub-titles to then burn to DVD. Thanks.

Just uploaded iLife '11 onto my mid 2011 iMac. There was a warning prompt though that (some) applications may not run properly. Following the upload iPhoto would'nt open but just reinstalled it ( no images lost ) and everything including iWeb, Garageband etc working fine.

I did read somewhere that if uploading an earlier version of iLife, the clock on the iMac might have to be turned back,ie if iLife 2010 reset clock to 2010 or earlier. Following upload reset clock to current date.

Another alternative which Klaus1 has recommended in the past is Photo to Movie ( http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php ) that I'm also looking at.

If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.

Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

In my opinion, there are none.

Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD. I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others. None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD.

Apple does support iDVD. They are supporting it on this forum. Also, iDVD is tested with the latest Macintoshes and OS.

Purchase iLife 11 or iLife 09 (includes iDVD) on disk.

IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.
