eMac Gray Screen Problem

Hi BD! It's been awhile, things have been going smoothly till I hit this bump. Time to trim the sails I guess. 😁

Perhaps this is the problem FireFox has discontinued service for G4 Technology, they advise me to buy a new computer. Sheesh. I'm now scouting for a new server for my eMac.

(For some reason Safari won't boot either.)

I'm looking at Cheeroke right now. Any input? I have Thunderbird for mail but they are Mozilla so will, no doubt, be discontinued also. Do you know anything about Opera?

I don't know what's going on. I got a notice that my Computer was not compatible with the new Firefox and they shut me out. Now I'm using Firefox to access this site although they won't let me open my "hone" page, and none of the other browsers will download to my computer. I'll have to play around with this some more and try to get a handle on it. 😟

Thanks for the help BD, the eMac is much better since I rebooted in Safe Mode, it's faster and it's sharper than it's been for a long time..

Hi BD! Sorry, I got sidetracked with another problem (Time Machine, which I'll get to in another thread).

The DNS #s are installed but I'm still in the old set up so will shut down FF and see what comes up. It has changed the initial access point in the Network Server Box so I guess it will go there first. ?

This is what I mean when I entered the Open DNL #s.

When I tried to open FF it ran about 3/4 of the way and then just sat there.

Then I went back to This:

And it works, --slowly (compared to my iMac) and I have downloaded TenForFox 😎 which said they may be rather slow until all the code was entered for the first time.

I guess I really blew it this time. Network will not give me the box with the "show - network status" command in it. It only gives me the Location box. Airport is "connected" all other choices, including Ethernet, are "not connected".

I'm not sure but it is possible that my downloading of the application "AppZapper" may be the villain in this scenario. It didn't do as expected so I "trashed" it and then when I went into Easy Find I discovered that there were 87 downloads to various apps on my computer, mostly backups but some active. Upon finding these downloads, I opened one of them and that activated the AppZapper back into my system and I had to do another Trash. After some investigation I managed to trash them all and now as I am doing a new Easy Find I am finding another 52 (and counting) sites that need to be removed. Not only are they all over the place but they are infiltrating the Moniter and writing code to all sorts of apps and they are EATING UP MY MEMORY AT AN INCREDIBLE PACE. --They do NOT have an uninstaller app and, obviously from this rant, trashing the app is a joke.--. I can only say, for $12.95 i have learned to investigate more deeply into the applcation I am considering downloading, I have laarned that , in a flash, an app can permiate your files, and I have learned that we may have the solutions to our problems right here on our very own Macs. 😐 Well, I guess it was a download too, 😮 "Easy Find".

Now that's a rabbit hole if there ever was one 😁. I haven't a clue as to what I'm supposed to be looking for but I've spent the last six hours looking. I don't know what this is worth but it seems to indicate something.

Is it possible my server was the culprit? For a while there it was shutting down every couple of days.

I must have done something right, if it wasn't the server, as it seems to be working fine now. I'm really in a daze about it though so will let it go for now. Perhaps I can make a log of where I go and what I do the next time something like this happens. Those Network numbers do bother me but it it seems "it ain't broke..." so I guess I don't need to fix it.

Act;ually, I don't think there's a problem here. The problem was I opened this thread on my iMac and was trying to get the information there and the set up is different, of course. This seems to have solved the problem and I'm going to drop this very mixed up and confusing thread with "All's well that ends well".
