having trouble using airplay on apple tv

Hi There,

Unable to see airplay icon by doubleclicking home button twice on my Iphone.

Tried everything recommended. It is an 4S device.

Tryint to mirror my i phone on to the TV via an apple tv device.

"Everything recommended" can mean different thngs to different people. Have you tried everything in this support article?
