Macbook Pro Retina or MBP?

Hi Guys.

I am interested to know your opinions on the following, as im stuck at a crossroards and just cant quite decide what to go for.

I am a designer and looking at buying a Brand new, New Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display, Intel Quad Core i7, 2.4GHz, 256GB, 8GB RAM, with 15.4 Inch Display or the Apple MacBook Pro, Intel Quad Core i7, 2.6GHz, 750GB, 8GB RAM with 15.4 Inch Display.

Now i do have a 2009 standard Macbook but would like to upgrade, i sometimes play games like Call of Duty 2/4 and Counterstrike Global Offensive but its pretty hard as the laptop is barely playable online with these games.

I was wondering if either of these 2 laptops im looking at purchasing would play any of these games comfortable with stable and high FPS as i do love the occasional multiplayer game.

Is retina really worth the extra money? will it improve visual graphically ingame?

I know both these laptops will be fantastic for my designing needs, but do they play well gaming online? which would perform better?

Any reply or input would be much appreiated.

Many thanks.

MacBook Pro

I would have to agree here. Not just with the OP but with anyone coming across this post.

After that one year, or, in some circumstances, within the one year, the GB has authority to send you to the place of where you bought your Mac if not bought from the Apple Store. If bought at an official Apple store, the Geniuses are the foundation for checking up on your Mac, essentially for free as it is part of the company's policy.

Then this store is an Apple Approved Reseller? If they are then you are basically buying from Apple.

In any event I would still buy the Applecare warranty and not the Store warranty.

Note that the Retina models are basically irreparable. iFixit gave it a very low repairability rating. I suggest you take a look at their site and read about the Retina models.

I have nothing against anyone spending their own money in any way they want. But the system that .methwolf bought is close to if not over $3000US.

Good Luck & Best Wishes with whichever system you buy.

Looks like you've answered your question and leaned towards what fits your needs, which in my honest opinion is the most important.

If a rMBP didn't fit your needs, then I simply would not recommend it. And yes, you are accurate when mentioning the building of a rMBP with the same specs/price. In my opinion, due to the non-moving parts of the rMBP and the solid state drives, it will make sense to last longer and fit your needs a little better than the standard MBP.

If a game only supports a disc and not a digitized download, then yes, you will need an external disc drive (it doesn't matter what brand you get -- save yourself some $$$ and get a cheaper one than Apple's Superdrive.)

I love playing games on OS, but then again some games are only optimized for Windows, which they run GREAT on via BootCamp. However, if a game is dual-compatible with MAC or PC, I'd choose running the game on OSX any day.

I would have to say that is the worst thing you can do. You really need to buy a Mac from Apple or from an Apple Approved Reseller and get the Apple Applecare warranty.

Apple, as far as I can see, is not going out of business. The place you are going to buy from could go out of business Tomorrow. So if they go out of business what happens to that supposed 3 year warranty? It is Gone.

Not only that but buying any warranty that is not directly from the manufacturer is basically wasting your money. That is true for all products. Extended warranties bought from a company other then directly from the manufacturer is the Biggest Scam in the World.

I personally wouldn't buy a Mac from any place other then Apple or AA Reseller and I certainly would not buy any Store Warranty. I do have Applecare on my Mac.

As usual you do not have a clue what you are talking about.

John Lewis PLC is one of the most respected retailers in the UK, and has been an authorised Apple reseller for many years. It is where I bought my iMac.

They are well-known for offering longer free warranties on electrical goods than most retailers. They are able to do this by only selling goods from major manufacturers.

No you do not. Any external DVD drive will work that connects by USB port. Most are around $30US, yes much cheaper then the Apple drive and IMHO better as theyh are Tray Load instead of the slot load that can fail more easily and often. Plus you can use any size CD/DVD in a try load drive. Can't do that with the Apple drive.

Hey Klaus1. The OP did not say where he was buying it from until after I responded to he post of Not buying it From Apple.

Look Report it if you like. I know you and a few other member have it in for me on this site. What, you and the Steve Jobs Fan guy tracking my post so you can find some you can report? Sounds like it. Why not drop CSound1 a note in the lounge to be on the lookout also.

Have a great rest of your day.
