How to access server over vpn connection

I can successfully connect my MacBook Pro via VPN to my Mac Mini running OS X Server. However, when I try to connect to server using either the ip address or private server name I see a message that I can't access the server. I am the administrator and checked my privileges are correct. Any tip on what I need to do further to set up the vpn server or client to allow full access to the server resources?

Thanks,

Mac mini (Late 2012), OS X Server

What are the remote and local networks' addressing schemes? If the remote and local both have the same addressing scheme (like both are 10.xxx.yyy.0) then I've noticed OSX, when with send all traffic, can't resolve the machines. You will still be able to connect the VPN as the setup most likely forwards the VPN from the WAN IP interface to the server via NAT. I've noticed that most networks that are available at public places (restraunts, hotels, etc) use the default networks of 172.16.1.0, 10.0.1.0, 192.168.1.0, so if your remote network uses one of those addressing schemes, you might need to change it to something like 172.16.2.0.

If you are using different addressing schemes (the networks have no overlap in addresses), I would recommend trying to ping resources (/Applications/Utilities/Network Utility.app) and making sure you have a valid IP address and tunnel from the VPN.
