Amazon blocks the ability for airplay, there are no plans for a native client.

Amazon isn't blocking Airplay or the Apple TV from an app/client for the Prime service. Please don't quote details you make up or hear as rumor. That's how we get these huge forum post full of wrong answers. If you have white papers, work on the Apple TV Dev team, or even just a quote from an Apple employee (that is in print or video) please do share. I do have documents to prove vazandrew's statements as false, however if I speak of it here my post get deleted. Had to edit this post for because of it.

Actually they do. All the tools are given and the developer has to specifically block access.

OK, I'm an Apple developer. Does that mean I'm blocking Amazon? Or any other app or feature? Come on man, Apple sets the rules for their porducts, and code. Like I said in my first post, have a reliable source or don't say it.

I'm saying Apple provided every developer the same tools and Amazon has chosen to block the ability to airplay. Another big one was HBO GO, only recently did they update to allow for it. It's likely due to licensing restrictions but you would have to contact them for an answer.

There are many sources and this is common knowledge. If you really are a developer you would know this. Anyway, I am not going to get into a big thing over this, you can choose what you want to believe.

You claim that Amazon is blocking AirPlay but I am not sure I follow what you mean by this. I have an ATV 3 and an iPad 2 and the ATV dosen't natively support Amazon prime but you can download an Amazon prime app for the iPad or iPhone and stream to the ATV through AirPlay and this is how I am able to watch Amazon prime movies and TV shows on my ATV. This works well but is just a hassle to have to use my iPad to watch videos from Amazon prime and I was hoping that the new ATV, which looks like a complete revamp of the ATV, would have an app like the iPad to eliminate the need of an extra device.

Why would Amazon block streaming directly to the new ATV but not the iPad or iPhone?

I am interested in purchasing a new ATV but if Apple isn't going to create an app to work with Amazon prime then I am going to pass because if I still have to use my iPad to be able to use my Amazon prime account then I am not spending more money for the same basic thing I already have.

This is a big disappointment for the much hyped redesigned ATV and I hope they can address this.

Vazandrew is not making a claim, he gave the answer very concisely.

"Amazon blocks the ability for airplay" meaning that Amazon has chosen NOT to allow airplay natively from the Amazon prime app/client that you may have on your devices.   You probably can accomplish a 'stream' using Apple's native Mirror option but Amazon has "blocked' users from streaming Amazon Prime from within Amazon apps.  They are likely choosing to do this in hopes that you would opt to use an Amazon FireTV hardware.

"...there are no plans for a native client."  meaning that Amazon has no plans (known)  to create a native app for use on AppleTV.  They can develop one for Amazon Prime users to download but again i doubt they do, because they want you to use their devices.

_Skull  -  Apple would not be the ones to create the app to work with Amazon prime.  It would be up to Amazon to create the app and make it available on the ATV platform.  If you want it you should request it from Amazon.

Thank you Vazandrew for your efforts in the Apple community!

Then I guess it is Amazon that created the app for the iPad and iPhone so I don't understand why they would create an app for these devices which also compete with the Amazon tablets but not the ATV. I have purchased an ATV 2 and an ATV 3 and was considering the newest ATV that has just released but if they can't at least add the Amazon prime service then I just can't see spending almost $200.00 for a fancier remote but mostly the same services. The only thing I use my ATV for is Netflix and occasionally I will watch some of the iTunes movies I have purchased. Another thing that is really dumb is I have to have my PC running with home sharing turned on to be able to watch my iTunes movies. I have all of my digital movies and TV shows on a WDMyCloud NAS drive but I can't access these directly from my ATV I have to also have my PC running with iTunes running and home sharing turned on which makes no sense at all because I also have my ATV logged into my iTunes account which should be able to verify I own the video being played. I found this so frustrating that I purchased an android box that has Kodi which is an awsome program that organizes all my videos and plays them, including HD, very well. The only drawback is you have to strip the protection off of your videos but once done gives you what the ATV should be doing. I hope Apple takes a hard look at their policies and stop making it so difficult to view the content you purchase from them but until then I won't be purchasing any more ATV's I'll stick to my Kodi box which has an awsome library management that is a good example of what I would expect from a $200.00 ATV box from a high end company like Apple.

That's kind of silly.  How can it be a licensing issue when there are apps to play Amazon Prime content on both the iPad and iPhone?

If I would hazard a guess it probably has far more to do with between rival companies of the device streaming the content. Apple TV verses Amazon Fire Stick TV.  So you have  apps for the iPhone and iPad but none on either competing device for the others content.

IF this is the case then it's silly because one has the kludge of using AirPlay to stream the content from the iPhone or iPad to the Apple TV.  It's simply an unnecessary P.I.T.A. to have to do so.

The consumer's needs ought to come first and this needs to be fixed.
