My caller number you call is an email and so is his, we both have wifi,and we both know we are on at the same time. I have an Mac and he has an iphone
Are both the emails mac issued or the email associated with the apple ID?

Both you and your friend's email addresses (since that is what you are using to connect) must have previously been verified. Here is a quick guide to Facetime for IOS. Both of you should go carefully through the steps to make sure you have everything set up to work:
