I have an older model PB G4 with a 40 GB HDD that is almost completely full. I need to free up disc space but the content i can see (pictures, Videos, Music) only accounts for about 10 GB. Where can I look for the space eating content, and how will I know if it can be safely deleted?

Rather than delete stuff you first need to back up your entire hard drive to an external drive.
40GB is tiny by modern standards. Have you emptied the Trash?
Yes, I emptied the trash. and I know that 40 GB is miniscule. It is just that I do no know what content is eating up all the disc space. Is rthere a way to find out?
There are utilities that will tell you what is using up your hard drive. Try these free ones:
I didn't check which ones still run on a PowerBook, but just check the sites or download and see. Hopefully at least one will.
