Mac cannot communicate with all-in-one scanner. Tried a Brother, a Canon, now an HP.

I've run through three all-in-one printers in the past two months (Brother, Canon, HP) in part because I get "An error occurred while communicating with the scanner" message when I try to open scanner. I have OSX 8.2 and am connecting to a router via ethernet.

Hi kcalvey,

Please clarify your router brand and model.

Apple devices using Bonjour to communicate with local devices, that relies on Multicasting and require your router to support it as well.

Some routers provided with Multicast disabled, some routers does not support Multicast as well, knowing your router details may help guiding you further to better understand what causes the problem.
