Q: how much memory can my iMac have?
I have a mid 2011 21.5 inch iMac with a 2.7 GHz i5, which was an option to order as an upgrade at the Apple online store, and cost and extra $300 or $400.
I have had it speced out by Crucial's MacScanner app, and the Crucial web page says I can put in up to 32 GB of memory.
Is this true? All the Apple specs I find say only 16 GB is the maximum, but I don't find my exact model's CPU specs, etc. in their listings.
my specs are:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac12,1
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 2.7 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 12 GB
Boot ROM Version: IM121.0047.B1F
SMC Version (system): 1.71f22
Serial Number (system): D25HC0MLDHJT
Hardware UUID: 03E448CE-B30B-54A7-A086-02A4BE2FDC1E
If this is capable of using 32 GB, I would be happy to go that route (who wouldn't?), but I don't want to purchase 8 GB modules and then find that they won't work.
Thanks for any info!

Officially, the Mid 2011 iMac supports 16 GB of memory, but you can install 32 GB of memory without any problem. You can buy the memory in OWC or Crucial > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2011/DDR3_21.5_27
