iPhone 5 on StraightTalk – can I switch to GSM when abroad?

I am considering buying an iPhone 5 from Walmart with their prepaid monthly plan. This means that my iPhone will work through CDMA. Will my iPhone still have a nano SIM slot and will it be unlocked for GSM use? I travel abroad often and would like to use my iPhone when I do – I would use local GSM networks. I don't want to buy a phone that is locked to any particular carrier, and I do not want to have long-term contracts with phone companies.
