I want to update to 5.1.1 on my ipad but I want to make sure that all of the items that I have purchased on the ipad are backed up or transferred to my computer

I want to update to 5.1.1 on my ipad but I am not sure that all of the items that I purchased with the ipad have been transferred to my computer
