Charger won't connect to the battery?

I have had my macbook for over two years now, and it has never had problems before. However, it started acting up a few days ago. First, it just randomly turned off and wouldn't turn back on. I tried plugging it in, holding down the power button, holding down various key combinations; nothing worked. I took it to the Apple store and they ran a system check and everything was fine. So I took it home, but now 9/10 times when I go to open it, it has turned off. No matter how much batter power it thinks it has, it seems to turn off. The first time it happened, I plugged it in and it came to life. However, the charger stayed green. It randomly turned orange a while later after I had unplugged it a few times and it decided to work. Today, it has done the same thing, but it's not turning orange. The battery icon has a small x through it and it says there are no batteries available. I don't want to fry the battery by having to plug it in every time to use it. I know has a decent, functional battery, I just don't know what's missing. I held option and clicked the battery icon, and it said the battery condition is normal. Help:(

Okay so today it randomly connected again. I live about an hour and a half from the nearest Apple store. Should I take it in to be looked at? I don't want this issue to happen again. Do batteries get knocked out of place and then come back often? Is it loose maybe? I don't want to be writing a paper or something and lose it from the battery freaking out again. But I also don't want to go in if they tell me that everything is fine and I just wasted 3 hours of time and gas.

If you are experiencing an on/off situation, it strongly suggests a loose or intermittent connection. These types of situations can be very difficult to diagnose. What I would do is take off the bottom of the MBP and see if the battery connection is well seated. I know that there are two types, one that you pull out and one that you press down on.

DO NOT use a metal tool to check this! Short circuits are to be avoided! You may want to just push or press the connection. Note that the connection may be under a flap and the clearances are tight. Having done this before, I would take it out, perhaps clean it and then reconnect it. I would monitor the situation and if it starts reoccurring, then I would suggest the road trip to the Apple store.

Ciao.
