iCloud Backup: I've bought the extra storage. I want to backup/sync jpegs - How?

iCloud is there to back up files from my devices. It works fine with Pages. How do I send my jpegs from Aperture (iMac) or iPhoto (iPad) to iCloud?

Any advice appreciated.

Thank you.

At this moment, photos can't be stored on iCloud because there isn't an app that allows you to do it. Also, Photo Stream is just a photo syncing service that deletes your photos 30 days after adding them, so it doesn't work for your uses.

If you only bought the storage for photos, I recommend you to ask for a refund > http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact

Thanks for the reply. Very helpful but disappointing.

I had assumed that on-line icloud storage was for storing files. I didn't realise Apple were selective about what type. I followed your link but was unable to find any way to request a refund. I purchased the extra storage about two hours ago.

    Any ideas?

You can cancel an iCloud storage upgrade but only within 15 days of buying:

Apple have made this as difficult as possible. However two posters have managed to achieve this. Elizellen was able to use Express Lane to get a refund:

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19323996#19323996

However if you use Express Lane may find you cannot proceed without entering a hardware serial number which is still eligible for AppleCare.  julia22 managed to find a way round that by phoning them - please see this post:

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16968425#16968425

it gives the USA number - if you don't live there you will have to find an equivalent number from the 'Contact Us' link at bottom right of this page.

Poster 'CCrefund' has posted a method applicable to users in the UK: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21002309#21002309

If it is more than 15 days since you purchased the storage you cannot cancel it for a refund; you can downgrade your plan as from your next renewal date. Please see

    http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmd602084a

and expand 'Downgrade your storage for the next plan year'.

And it's for store things, but you have to use an app that it's compatible with iCloud, and now, there isn't any app that stores photos on iCloud

Lots of sympathetic help. Many thanks. It looks like I'm stuffed as neither Aperture of iPhoto will sync with iCloud. Strange really as photographs are precious and cannot be replaced if your computer is lost or destroyed. I would have thought this would be a primary use of iCloud.

MAYBE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT APPLE SHOULD TACKLE.

Anyway, I now know I can legitimately request a refund but you are right in saying it's hard to obtain.

My solution: I went on 'Live Chat' at Apple Customer Services. The person there gave me a link to 'iTunes Store Billing' and I have requested a refund from there.

So, no actual satisfactory result and no refund as yet.

Very grateful for all help so far.

I now need to find a different way to store a very large photo collection in a different location so that I can:

    a) Automatically synchronise selected jpeg files directly from iPhoto and Aperture.

    b) Have the synchronised files stored away from home (in case of theft or other catastrophe).

    c) Access the files to view or edit from mobile devices (iPad/iPhone).

Any ideas? Surely I'm not the only one.  :-)

    Have a look at SugarSync.

Backing up a precious photo collection is the users responsibility, Apple provide an excellent backup system (Time Machine), using it is a very good idea. Then they have less chance of being lost.

    SUCCESS!

I contacted Apple this morning and got a refund no problem. They were efficient and very helpful.

Still have backup problem. Time machine is fine but, for security, would like backup hard drive to be elsewhere. Think I'm going to burn DVDs of the jpegs and store them elsewhere.

Thanks for all the suggestions and guidance.

As Roger suggested, and I will second, try SugarSync. Free storage (up to 5G) will be enough to evaluate it.
