Hi all,

I'm not sure if it is the right forum to ask these questions.

I need to run an application using JRE 6 on mac osx(Lion). I have installed java 6 by the steps in:

The problem is that this update also removes the Java Preferences application from the Utilities menu. As well as, when I try to run my jnlp file there is an error which "To open this Web Start application, you need to download the Java Runtime Environment."

How can I set Runtime Parameters for example if I cannot access to the Java Preferences? how to add Applet Runtime Parameters?

Check to see if the panel moved to the System Preferences. If, for instance, you install Java 7 from Oracle in Mountain Lion, that's where it is.

No, it is not there.

If I install Java 7 again, does it remove Java 6? or I can use java 6 again. because my application can not be run by Java 7.

Installing Java 7 should not remove 6.

I have installed Java 7 but in Java preference there is only Java 7 and no Java 6?

Java 6 should still be on the system. Download and install this updater and see if the preferences return.

Not sure how you would set an app to use a specific version of Java.

Thank you so much, My OS X 10.7.5 works ok now =) but I have the same problem with OS X 10.7.2.

It warns that "To open this Web Start application, you need to download the Java Runtime Environment."

But Java 7 is not availabe for that and I can not find any JRE to install for it, on the other hand I do not want to update its OS??

Apple's requirement to update Java for the Mac ended with version 6. Oracle is now responsible for all future Java development and deployment. You can get the full Java 7 installer here.

Java 7 is only available from Oracle and their current version requires Mac OS X 10.7.3 or later, so if you want to run Java 7, you're going to have to update your version of OS X. If you can work with Java 6, the updater Kurt linked to should work on your 10.7.2 system. Have you tried it and had it fail, and if so what error messages are presented, if any?

That's only an updater. I know it's the one I linked to before, but I was hoping Java 6 was already on your system, and the update would fix the issue with it being missing from the Utilities folder. You seem to have lost Java 6 altogether somehow.

It shows that it has Java 6. but when I try my JWS application it warns that:

It may be that the test recognizes that components of Java 6 are present, but it's damaged and won't run.

Here's another Java 6 installer for Lion.

This tip may also work to get Lion to reintall Java 6.

Thank you again for your time, But I run an applet with that if it does not have Java how it is possible to run?

although I will test those links tomorrow, I wish JWS works after that.

I have one more question:

I installed Java 7 on OS x 10.7.3 and 10.7.5 at first, then I tried to run my JWS applications (which use JOGL1 ) but they showed only blank white pages then I did the steps of the link:

after that they warned that there is no JRE , I installed Java7 again and they work, But I did not get the reason?why it did not work at first?!?!?

I'm afraid I don't know enough about Java to get quite that deep into why it would, or wouldn't work.
