keyword search in fcp x not working

I just spent 6 hours keywording clips in FCP X. Now the search does not work at all. Nada. Nothing. Even one letter in the search box brings up the warning box..."No clips match the current filter setting." I've double clicked the magnifying glass and check out my criteria. Tried both clearing the criteria and adding keyword and text options, both to no avail.

Is this the moment in which I abandon fcp and get on with Premiere? How can such a basic thing as a search (which is fcp x's claim to fame) be so aggrivating. Absolutley nothing is working!!! Do I need to scap a folder somewhere?

Note: I'm using the trial version as I'm not convinced the new fcp is worth it yet. Could this be the problem?

In the Event Library I can click on the event OR the keyword library and neither of them yeild results. I've tried selecting "All Clips", "Hide Rejected" etc. in the drop down AND I've tried customizing the search. I've tried making new prjocts and searching within them as well. I've checked in list view and in the keyword panel for lots of different clips to confirm they actually have keywords and they do. Still no success.😕

Thank you Tom and Appleman...but then what??? If my timeline is selected and I push Cmd-F then I get a new window to the left (the "Find" window I presume) and it seems to show keywords and will shoot to the next clip on the timeline that meets the criteria. It does not however have a "+" symbol to select. If my Event Library is selected and I push Cmd-F then I get a pop-up window title Filter in which it does have the "+" symbol. Click there and yes I can select a checkbox that says keywords and has all of the keywords I laboriously entered. I can check these off too, but the only outcome is a "key" symbol shows up in the original search box. If I try to enter anything to search it opens up the Filter window again and around and around we go. 😟

Hey RC,

Are you trying to search for stuff in all your events? I just don't get why there's any mention of "timeline"...

Anyway, here's me, selecting my drive, in the Event Library, and selecting a few choice keywords - http://i.imgur.com/47NcnPY.jpg

To get there I just clicked on the magnifying glass in the Event LIbrary and made the changes you can see in the dialog.

Yes, once you've done this, clicking anywhere in the textbox brings you back to this dialog - you can't type text into the original box anymore. This part makes sense to me.

What did throw me off at one stage, is that this dialog showing has a scrollbar *which I sometimes don't notice*... and it may be hiding a bunch of filters that is stopping anything from showing. It's so easy to miss (caught me while doing this simple demo) that I'd say there's a fault with the design of this dialog. It should be obvious if filters are out of view, somehow.

I think perhaps the confusion is in the fact that I'm watching a fcp X tutorial on Lynda.com for the 1st version as opposed to the one I'm using now? In any case, I figured out how to use the "+" sign...just totally different then the narration on lynda. If you have any more suggestions I'd love to hear them. 🙂

Actualy, I don't believe there are any differences in the search function between the 10.0.3 version, which the Lynda.com tutorial is based on and the current 10.0.7 version. If I'm wrong, no doubt someone will point out what I've missed.
