iTunes 11 freezes my mac

I have a problem similar to edgar89.

As soon as I open iTunes it freezes and I cannot do anything with it.

The problem started two days ago when it was freezing after a few minutes

while downloading new podcast episodes. Today it freezes as soon as I open it.

I also thought to re-install iTunes. How to do it?

I keep my iTunes library on an external disk.

I'm using Mac OSX 10.7.5 and, I believe, the most updated version of

iTunes.

Actually, in my case the problem does not freeze my computer.

I just have to force iTunes to quit, but basically I cannot use iTunes.

I'm having the same problem as you antoniaccio. Not sure if it's a conicedence or not, but I had recently turned on iTunes Match.

I've reinstalled iTunes to no avail.

I've had this problem too. I can't hook up my Ipod, or my Ipod. I ended up having to install itunes on my pc to connect my Ipad, and Ipod. Would love a solution to this problem

I'm having the same problem. Just started today. I open iTunes and it freezes after just a few seconds and I have to force quit. I can still use the computer, but just not iTunes. I have repaired permissions. I've got my library on a wireless external hard drive and I'm using OSX 10.8.3

I'm still having this problem after one week.

My iTunes freezes a few seconds after opening it.

Basically I have been unable to use iTunes

for the last week.

In my case I haven't turned ITunes Match on.

My Mac does not freeze though.

Only iTunes freezes as soon as I open it

and then I have to force quit.

Could anybody solve the problem?

I'm also having a problem with Itunes 11.0.2 freezing (2009 Imac 27"); however it winds up playing again, sometimes after just a few seconds, sometimes up to a minute or more. Other times it will play for awhile with no problems.This started happening a few weeks ago. Extremely frustrating!

I'm experiencing the same problem on my iMac 21.5".

Both Mac OS X and iTunes are updated at latest versions.

iTunes freezes after a few seconds iTunes Match procedure has been completed, when I try to browse my music library. System and other applications keeps working, but iTunes needs to be killed.

The only way to be able to use iTunes is to turn iTunes Match off.

Could be a sort of cache problem?

My Itunes has a similar problem. Itunes crashes when preferences are launched. Itunes is unable to see sync with any devices. It crashes and I must restart itunes. I have a large library that I haven't been able to access. I have been on forums looking for answers now several times in the last few months but have not found anything.

I have this same problem and thought I had fixed it by moving my time machine backups off the external hard drive which was getting pretty full (combined with my music and photos) and was (I assumed) causing it to freeze. I went about half a day before it started again. I even went to genius bar but before going had adjusted my external and as I said thought I had solved the problem. After having them explain where to save time machine backups and the size etcI left and thought this problem had been solved. It most certainly is not. It takes about 1-2 minutes of doing anything in itunes and it freezes. Spinning beachball and I have to force quit. I cannot even begin to describe the frustration. Please help!!!!!!

I have the same problem. Every 5-15 minutes while playing music from local disk iTunes freezes for a few minutes. Sometimes the activity monitor shows it going to 100% cpu. It continues normal play after a few minutes.

System: 13" MacBook Pro, OS X 10.8.4, iTunes 11.0.4.

Any idea how to get Apple's attention about this?

I'm having this same issue, iTunes 11.0.4 causes my MacBook Pro to freeze up. I have to restart using the power button. There are endless threads about this issue, it's about time Apple does something about it.

And me. MacBook Air - all latest patches applied. As soon as I start iTunes I get a stuttery mouse pointer, then spinning beach ball of death and then a total freeze that necessitates a power off.....

Same here: more than 100% of cpu use whenever playing a tune… Any solution, anyone?

I do have the same issue with MBP 13''. Im tired. I faced this issue some time back. The screen flickers. And flickers. Goes on. Then I had to hard stop the book. After I reopen, same issue. I upgraded to mac os X 10.8 "Mountain Lion". Then the issue seemed to be solved. But after few days, when I opened iTunes to update my OS to Maverics, screen started flickering and then goes to grey screen and freezes. I can't see anything except the grey screen. I had to long press the power button and after restarting, it shows an error that last time my MBP was not properly shut down. Oh yeah. Well I know that. Later the problem reappears after 1-2 mins. 😕
