Why isn't my PC backing up my iPad whenever it syncs ?

I just recently purchased a new iPad and I have updated everything on my laptop in iTunes as well as my iPad. Whenever I try to sync my library into my iPad it stops working when it is backing up my iPad. This is annoying , please help me. It is stopping me from adding important videos from my library on as well as music.
