And if you're referring to the password to your user account in Windows, that's not even a Parallels problem, it's a Windows problem. Cracking/resetting a Windows user password is not a simple process, but if you ask on a Windows-oriented support web site, someone may have suggestions. It will be easier to just create a new VM in Parallels and reinstall Windows, though, so pursuing cracking of the account would be worthwhile only if you have files in Windows that you need and cannot replace.

Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. Where exactly is the problem? Are you unable to launch Parallels? Or can you launch Parallels but not get the Window virtual machine to load? Or can you get all that accomplished and Windows booted but have forgotten the password to log into your Windows account?

When are you asked for the password? Do you have Parallels set up to boot Windows when you start Parallels and is it Parallels that's asking for a password or Windows? When you do, also take a look at post #6. That post seems to offer a way to get around the password problem long enough to change it. As a long term VMware Fusion user, this is a learning experience for me, too.

In digging deeper your Windows7 should run on Parallels7 on OSX 10.8 with the latest build of Paralles7.

It is Windows8 that requires the upgrade to Paralles8.

Well for starters you need to upgrade to Parallels 8 for you OS X 10.8.2.

If you don't have the password to log into Windows, it won't matter what version of Parallels you run.
