The USB port on the AirPort Express will only support the print function.
So, while you could physically connect the USB modem to the AirPort Express, it will not work.
An alternative would be to plug your Mac into the USB modem, then connect the Express via Ethernet to the Mac. Set the Mac up to share the connection over Ethernet.
If you haven't already bought the Express, Netgear and TP-LINK provide 3G routers.
Hi Bob, I am a bit confused. If I connect my modem to my Imac will Airport Express then detect the modem? At this point I do not use any ethernetcable. I thought that Airport Express had the same function as an ordinary router.
It does, it just doesn't support 4G (or 3G). You need to share the connection over Ethernet, and connect the Express to act as a WiFi access point.
Hello,
As edex67 indicated, you could use a dedicated mobile broadband router instead. You would plug the USB mobile broadband modem directly into the router. Such routers "transform" the mobile broadband Internet connection (3G/4G) into either a local Wi-Fi or Ethernet network (or both).
Make absolutely sure that a certain router model has support for exactly the USB 4G mobile broadband modem (and network operator) that you are using.
