Q: Importing WAV into Adobe Audition Cs5.5 and pitch/speed increases. please help.

Hi guys,

 

You have been a real help in the past so i'm hoping you can be again.

 

I am importing a largish WAV file into audition from a soundcloud download and each time the pitch is very high and the speed has increased.

 

I dont know why this is happening and I have never encountered this problem before.

 

File is fine and plays ok outside audition.

 

Are you help me fix this issue as it is quite urgent..?

    Most likely a mismatch between expected and actual sample rates.

     

    You might also post your question on the Adobe website. This one is here to support Apple products.

    You're perfectly fine posting here, it's other pro audio after all.

     

    Quite likely your wavs sample rate from soundcloud is 44.1 khz and  your audio app is set to a different sample rate, maybe 48 khz or higher. The mismatch would make it sound higher.

     

    Try looking at either, changing the adobe session sampling rate to the same as the wav or changing the wav to tbe adobe sample rate. Let us know how you get on!

    Hi Guys,

     

    thanks for the advice. I downloaded Audacity and did the basic cuts on there. I also figured that I could use the programme 'Switch' to convert it to an MP3 and then go into audition with that file instead...? (its only a vocal podcast so I would have converted it anyway by the end)

     

    However - for myself and others - How would I change the sample rate for the file? Shouldn't Audition be powerful enough when opening the file, to manage the correct playback? As there is no indication it is 'faulty' until after it has been opened (I.E - it does not warn you about the a potential sample rate issue)

    without knowing for sure why you got the problem, it's not possible to give salient advice.

    yes, adobe, audacity, switch, iTunes will all do the conversion for you.

    you could also use audacity to export as an mp3 too, as well as edit it.

    ideally, sample rates should change rarely, i.e. you should work at the rate of the file, where possible.

    but it seems you were using mixed sample rates and the DAW you used had issues with the differences.

    for quick conversions use iTunes, change the cd import settings to what you want, and you can convert selected audio files to that cd import setting.

    XLD is highly thought of, does a similar thing.

     

    BTW, you rightly surmise that Audition should be powerful enough, i don't know it but it surely can do all the things you are asking... look for import or convert in the menu
