You'll have to find a way to call the store in Boston. Since you paid in cash, it may be difficult or impossible to get a duplicate receipt since you will probably have no way to prove you are who you say you are. But calling the store is your only option.

If you setup a support profile & registered your phone with Apple, when you originally purchased it, you can login to your support profile & print out a copy of the original receipt. If you didn't do that, you have no choice but to contact the store where you purchased the phone.

No, that doesn't prove you're the one who purchased it. You could have bought it, or stole it, from the original owner.

Apple will not provide a receipt with personal information about a purchase to anyone other then the original purchaser, so I doubt very much that your friend will be able to get a receipt. At best they can ask that a copy of the receipt be sent to the email address you provided when you purchased the iPhone. If you did not provide an email, then the chances of your friend getting a copy of the receipt are very small. It's worth a try, though.
