Is there a way to have iTunes startup in the system tray? I have a business process using Video iPods where my clients have asked about this capability. There are a number of 'internal' podcasts that our sales force subscribes to and having iTunes start in the system tray allows this process to work background rather than 'in your face'.
<I've tried putting it in the startup group minimized, but it has no effect>.
Yes. In itunes, edit/preferences/advanced. Check the boxes "show itunes in system tray" and "minimize itunes window to system tray".
Then, drag the itunes shortcut to the startup folder in the start menu. Right click the new shortcut in the startup folder and select properties, then the shortcut tab. In the "run" drop list select "minimized". Itunes will open when your computer starts and minimize to the system tray.
I had done that already... it does not START minimized. It allows the application to 'live' in the system tray (but it's not started there)... remember this is a corporate environment... with 'network' login... iTunes does not start 'minimized' to the tray in this scenario... it always opens the the window, which you then have to minimize to the tray.
Oops I misunderstood. I thought you meant upon starting the computer. You're right, it opens normally no matter what and yet will open in my system tray only when I start my computer.
Sorry for my ignorance, I should read more carefully.
