How do I connect my laptop to my HDTV? My MacBook Pro does not have an HDMI connection. My TV has one HDMI connection and one VGA connection.

I don't believe I have the Mini Display Port. I have a fire wire connection, a thunderbolt connection and two USB connections. If I understand correctly the adapter will be thunderbolt to HDMI. and will be video only laptop to TV. Sound would require another cable?
Thunderbolt and Mini DisplayPort use the same connector. That's why I told you to buy a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, because you will be able to connect it onto the Thunderbolt port of your Mac. Note that Thunderbolt is the same as Mini DisplayPort but with data transfer compatibility.
You shouldn't need another cable to get sound to the TV
