My son is interested in buying Sim City. I have read some posts that starting with upgrades after OSX lion Mac's do not support these programs on Intel proc.
Is there a fix for this or is the problem no longer an issue. Just can't find any recent comments in any forums.

What system specs are you targeting with the Mac version?
Like the PC version, we are aiming to make the game as accessible as possible. Any user with Snow Leopard and a Core 2 processor will be able to enjoy SimCity for Mac.
Hopefully by the time it's released for Mac, most of the problems will have been ironed out, but don't hold your breath…
does sim city 5 run on mac 10.8+
