Q: importing movies to SD for transfer to iPad

I have lots of my dvd's ripped to external harddrives. I would like to import them into the kids iPad minis using an SD card and the Lightning to SD reader. So far I have been unable to add the movies to the SD card. I am not very familiar with using SD cards and have never transfer data to them. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

For movie files to be seen, they do need to be MP4 files - which the iPad will play.

On your card, make a folder named DCIM
Edit your movie files to have a file name of 8 characters.....Mov12345.mp4 for example
Put those movie files into the DCIM folder

put that card in the reader and your photo app should open. You cannot see the name of the files. nor can you preview them from the card. The only way to view them is to import them, watch and then delete...so you have to make sure you have enough free space on your harddrive.

I was able to make the folder and added an mp4 file. After I connected it to the mini, I got the error message,"Contents not available. Cannot read connected storage media."

Any suggestions?

What kind of SD card is it?

SD, SDHC, SDXC?

that's the issue

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4101

it says it only supports XC cards
SDXC (supported only when not formatted as ExFAT)

You can use your computer to format them differently
