I tried what was in the discussion about "hiding store purchases" and it no longer works. Or at least doesn't work for me? I think it was an update that caused this. So is there any way at all to hide my App Store purchases? Maybe even delete??

Not from an iPad, no, at least not any way I've been able to find. You'll have to use iTunes on a computer to hide purchases.

You're following the directions given in the "hide or unhide purchases on your computer" section in the referenced article? It works for me. If it doesn't for you, perhaps if you provide more information than just "doesn't work", someone can offer suggestions,
Ignore the section about hiding on an iOS device; that doesn't work.
