Unlocking probs with IPhone 4

I purchased a second hand iPhone 4 from a friend at Xmas when she ungraded to the iPhone 5. As part of her contract her old phone could now be unlocked. She sent a request for me on the 23 Dec and never heard anymore from apple or Vodafone. A new request was submitted about a week ago and according to Vodafone this phone has now been unlocked and was instructed to connect it to iTunes. I did this, backed the phone up, then restored it, the inserted new SIM card and connected to iTunes and still nothing!!!! When I first tried to connect it, it said activation failed. I was then given the instructions by Vodafone to back up restore etc which I have done. Every time I put a tmobile sim in it says no sim inserted. Please can someone help as this has been going on since December and I'm now fed up, Vodafone have said there's nothing more they can do :))))

Ok I have tried to restore the phone as a new one, but still nothing no message to say its been unlocked yet I have an email confirmation which was sent to Vodafone by apple to confirm that the phone has been unlocked. All I get is no sim installed. Been trying to unlock this since dec so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong??

As far as I can tell, the EE in EE 14.0 stands for the carrier Everything, Everywhere.

Open the drop down menu for Europe, and scroll to the bottom of the list for the UK.

What is listed in Settings> General> About> Network? You may have to enter the APN info for T-Mobile, or have them do it.

Also check the following T-Mobile info in how to set up your iPhone.

The confirmation e-mail comes from carrier and not Apple.

The iPhone is unlocked, per information provided. Non-Vodafone SIM is able to activate it now.

Since an upgrade iPhone 5 has already been released by the carrier against this, working status of this iPhone could be cleared/explained by them only.
