partial black toolbar? Help!
After the last update, now I have a black rectangle and black apple icon covering about 1/8 of my toolbar; it doesn't show the tab items under it. I want it gone!
Please help

Top of screen
it appears on top of screen on desktop
Press command F5 and see if it goes away.
If not, can you post a screen shot (command - shift - 4, then drag to capture what you are seeing).
When I held Command-Shift-4 it switched to the dashboard & when I went back the black rectangle was gone?

You have to hold Command - Shift - 4 all at the same time to be able to take a screen shot.
You may have hit F4 instead of 4. On older keyboards, F4 is the shortcut to the dashboard.
You might want to check System Preferences/Accessibility to see if Voiveover is enabled. When I enabled it, I got a black bar at the bottom of the screen.
As to why it disappeared using the keys you mentioned, sometimes it is better to not ask too many questions - just be glad it worked. 🙂 In other words, I have no idea why.
